Met up with Jenny and Azrael to have Shabu Shabu in Minis. Split up around 11:40ish when they took the bus and walked up union just for the heck of it, and to check out the deli. Old Korean lady asked for help finding a bag with an "important bill" but couldn't help much. Got a 25 cents Doritos Fiery Habanero, very tasty. BSG the anti-Voyager?
After the escape from New Caprica (to be honest I found that a wee bit too convient) we've... character xyz have issues and they're resolved (and rare uber cool scenes in the Cylon ships). On the human side, while I like these types of character devlopments I find that it's the only thing on right now, and there're precious few sci-fi moments making the show too unvaried for my pallet. The polar opposite of ST: Voyager this show has too much character interaction and not enough pretty exciting cg moments. I suppose with the one group of villians in the series not wanting to fight, and the human conflicts mostly resolved there's very little to happen in the series, making this a very dull season. Considering the lack of direction the early comics had being little more then variations of I love god, and how things picked up after the alleged disillusionment I'm inclined to believe in the latter. Might as well jot this down...
During the ride to the Manor wedding dad probably out of a necessity to not sit in silence told a abridged story of his life. Basically, he was the mid child and was also the one with the most ambition so in his elementary school years he spent time in the library studying. Later not having a life direction, he bummed around a bit doing odd jobs and wandering until he hit Seoul, andl a aunt of his made some money with a hair salon and agreed to pay for his tuition which he's really grateful for. He attended for a year I think before his aunt couldn't support him.. and blank in memory but he managed to self study enough (supposedly only slept 3 hours a day) and got into Korea U. Again dropped out due to lack of money, but this time raised enought tuition money himself by going to army, (which payed in U.S bills at that time) I think before but very close to the Vietnam War which Korea participated in and made a bit more by being a translator. After x years in the army he went back to school took French Literature as his major stating he wanted to finish quickly to save time/money (but did outside studies) and attempted to get a job as a diplomat, but failed the test which he'll probably regret until death. So, finally he got a job as a airplane pilot, and married at age 35 through an arranged marridge. From what I understand he was singleminded in his life and ultimatly did not make nor does not have any significant friends of either sex though I suppose he'll take the 18+ material to his grave stupid asian modesty... | | Saturday, November 4th, 2006 | | 5:08 am |
wtf is NHK about?
Currently we've met individuals around my age who while financially stable seem to have their own fun sets of neurosis all of which seems to come from pessimism on various aspects of human relationships (people/society is greedy, or out to get me). Hell now that I think on it the only character who doesn't seem to follow this trend is the odd anti-hikkimori girl who instead suffers from low self esteem (cares for Satou only cause he's "the lowest of low," and is therefore the most important person to her), and was/is physically abused. I've no idea where the show is going currently. My only guess is that the mangaka/anime is trying to point out all personal social problems comes from fatalistic views on humanity which we all have in one form or another, so we shouldn't look down on hikkis cause we're somewhat similar? It appears after reviewing last nights conversation with Jenny I too don't argue to the best of my abilities. I should've possibly focused on how she was being a hypocrite using her pessimism as a superior standing to my stance of possible. BTG some random thoughts
Might be I'm biased cause of Asimov's books, but I've always thought robots should be a bit smarter then humans. At the very least I hoped the Cylons wouldn't make stupid mistakes that are probably covered in a "My First Fascist Dictator's Kit". Sadly, they're acting like a bunch of newbie occupiers. It's odd how all relevant histories of fascist states seems to have been forgotten, or ignored. Makes me wonder what the Cylons especially Boomer, and Caprica Six are thinking about this whole mess. Then again Cylons acting logically, subtly assisting the survivors like giving supplies, and using their remaining hidden operatives to manipulate the colony in a positive direction (possibly reinstating Roslin) does't make a fun story. Then again if the intent was peace I'm sure they would've been a bit more sutle, say land outside the settlement, or er... open hailing frequencies? The Kara thing is interesting. Considering she was abused as a child, having her alleged child be an Achilles Heel for love made sense I guess. I'm hope the actual identity of the baby will be left ambiguous. The Cavil(s) being apathetic, amoral, hedonists was surprising, but shouldn't have been in retrospect. He also reminds me too much of a smart assed nihilistic teen. I guess ultimately this is making statements about humanity by having newbie sentients make all the stupid mistakes we are struggling with today. They have been called the "pussycat of the sea," and devotees of diving programs on educational TV are often treated to images of scuba divers hitching a ride with some of the larger forms. This is a precarious activity at best, however, since the stingray's spine is in a perfect position to inflict injury to a human pressed against their dorsum. And if frightened, roughly handled, or captured, they react quickly by using their tail to place the sting in close contact with the object of their discomfort. Stingrays cannot raise or lower their stings voluntarily. The wound they inflict comes from the arching forward flick of their muscular tail. Envenomation occurs when the tip of the spine penetrates the ray's integumentary sheath and lacerates the skin of the victim simultaneously. Human injuries also occur during stingray capture, when people attempt to haul them into a boat. Another common scenario is for the victim, wading in shallow water, to accidentally step on a stingray buried just beneath the sand. In these instances, the ray flicks up its tail, usually lacerating the leg. Contrary to popular "nature documentaries," it is extremely hazardous to swim directly over, or in close proximity to, a stingray. A flick of the tail is apt to pierce a person's body, and a serious, even potentially fatal, situation is in the offing. Damnit Jim, I'm a doctor... hmm well kindof?
Watched 24 episodes of Mushishi. I like the series, but it doesn't try to break new grounds, fairly standard non-standard fare. I do love the main character to death (though why in gods name does he look like a SD Seras), but too many of the episodes feel like "Star Trek: The Next Generation". Either the character solves his Mushi problems with techobabble or they're used as a plot device to explore the human psyche etc, etc. This show is all about it's character interactions and it does do well there. Ginko is cool, and the extras are believable in a quiet subtle way. Still the episode where the moral was "treat first encounters cautiously”... ack goddammit stop channeling Spock already! Harumi, I'm sorry but watching a crappy home movie/anime parody with MST3K is not fun. Nor is it an insightful critique on Japanese anime when it's nothing more then pointing out plot inconsistencies that any TV viewer with a brain would notice. Unless one wants to go and say MST3K parodies of Star Trek or 80s actions movies are insightful/deep look into American Sci-Fi and Films respectively. | | Tuesday, May 2nd, 2006 | | 11:41 pm |
Pyramid Head porn... I know theses things should stop surprising me, I know odd fetishes exist. But still, your playing a creppy bloody game, you see a guy with a block on his head, and the thought is omg sexxorz... It's like watching Passion of Christ and getting horny over the torture scenes. Though in retrospect I'm sure that subgroup exists too. Hmm, Passion as porn suddenly... my life feels a bit better.
